Chairman’s Challenge – 2020

The annual Chairman challenge took place Sunday October 25th. The competition was a Fox-hunt (4 ball-better-ball) where the Chairman & Captain (Kjeld & Vincent) from their round set the Par of the course and everybody in teams of two tries to beat that score.

We were 28 participants translated into 7 flights. The weather was at times a bit wet and the course also very wet following a lot of rain the last weeks.  Nevertheless, the spirit was high and despite the current COVID-19 restrictions we still managed to have an enjoyable event. Unfortunately, the restrictions required that the challenge was played as a normal tee-time competition and where the participants were not allowed to remain at ESTEC for a social gathering after the event.  Health is and remains the top priority and it is still a privilege that we even under the current restrictions can enjoy a good round of golf.

The Foxes did their very best and managed to lower the par of the course by 5, but even under those restrictions two teams still managed to make 36 stableford.

Anna C & Gijs – with 36 points and a better back 9 became the winner of today’s event – congratulation -, closely followed by Ineke and Anna Grethe also with 36 points as second, and Gerry and Paul with 34 points on the third place.

It is worth noticing that Gijs Tan became 3rd in 2018, was winner in 2019 and now again in 2020.
It seems that a winning strategy is to team up with Gijs ……  well done Gijs.

10th ESA Cup

10th ESA Cup, Zimmerner Golfclub, Groß Zimmern, Germany

The 10th ESA Cup took place this year on the
Zimmerner Golfclub, 15 km east of Darmstadt. Organised by our ESOC colleagues,
this year’s tournament saw 28 players battle it out on this hilly golf course.
For most of us it was a 5-hour drive from the Netherlands taking place on the
18-19 May, 2018. ESTEC put up 3 teams composed of 4 players each, while ESOC
came also with three teams, ARES had two and one single brave player, Mark
Kidger showed up for ESAC.

Our ESTEC teams came well prepared. Most playing
a practice round the day before, we started the first day with top scores.
David Binns took the lead on the first day and also had the longest drive. Alex
Jeanes came in second on the day and Sascha Ricken third. After the first day,
we all relaxed to a nice dinner organised at the golf club.

We continued the next day, and by 17:00 it was
all over. The scores were in and we all awaited anxiously for the final result.
The top scorers over the two days were:

In third place:
ESTEC C with Kjeld Hjortnaes, Tony Rosmalen, Klaus Ludwig and Salim
Ansari having scored a net Stableford of 192.

In second place: ESTEC A came in with David
Binns, Alex Jeanes, Vincent Regis and Erik van Ginkel with a net Stableford
score of 206.

And the top prize went to ESTEC B with Ignacio
Aguilar Sanchez, Raffeale Tosellini, Anna Grethe Hjortnaes-Pedersen and Rafael
Lucas Rodriguez with a net Stableford of also 206, but with a top single
Stableford score of 42 achieved by Ignacio.

ESTEC won the ESA Cup decisively for a fourth
year running and has now beaten all three establishments on their own turfs!
Next year, it is our turn to host the ESA Cup and to continue to defend our
long-standing title! Well done ESTEC Golfers!
