This past weekend we played the combined Walker Cup and Club Championship.
On Saturday under perfect conditions, sunny and almost no wind, we played the first round of the Club Championship and the Walker cup. We had a total of 36 participant, with 2 having to withdraw due to illness and abiding by the corona precaution.
On Sunday the second round was played in equally ideal conditions, just a little bit more breezy. 17 players were on the course (one player that had to withdraw in the morning due to illness).
Walker Cup results
The category 2 championship was won by Stephen Durrant with the great score of 40 stableford points (off 36, 41 off his full hcp), 6 points ahead of Ton Remmen, and 7 in front of Rob Jansen. In the process Stephen scored a very respectable 83 brut score that got him inside the cut line for the Club Championship second round.
Congratulation Stephen!!! Very well done!!!
Club Championship results
The Club Championship on the other hand was a very tight race.
After the first round on Saturday, Paul McNamara was at the top of the leaderboard with 65, just one shot ahead of Vincent Regis 66, and 2 ahead of Erik van Ginkel and Alex Jeanes both with 67.
On Sunday, in the 2nd round Vincent Regis stormed out of the gates with a first nine 30, one over par , and at that point was well ahead. But a series of mistakes at the beginning of the back nine, and some very solid play from Paul McNamara with 2 birdies, put Paul right back in contention after hole 15. It all came down to hole 18, and a bladed chip shot from Paul, to hand a short victory to Vincent by just one shot. Erik van Ginkel had a solid 2nd round but stayed 3 short of the lead.
So after 3 years of dominance from David Binns, the new Club Champion is Vincent Regis!
Best ladie, or to put it better, last ladie standing is Helma Nollen. Congrats Helma!
A Special thank you goes out to Ton Remmen and his team of green keepers, for setting up the course in a condition, that every player I talked to said was perfect. The fairways were immaculate, the greens were smooth and fast, and the pin positions presented a fair challenge.
Great work Ton !!!!
