Captains Day competitionCup 2014

Captains Day Cup 2014

On Saturday the 26th the Captains Day tournament took
place in beautiful warm weather. The golf course was in perfect condition, and
for the first time in a competition, the pin on Hole 2 was place on the new section of the back of the green.

We had a total of 35 players, 21 men and 14 ladies. The format
was Stableford, for the men and ladies separate.

Hassan Sawri with 38 points, and Wil Spangenberg with 36
points won the respective trophies. (attached full results)

After the competition we were treated to a glass off
Prosecco by John and Anne Wong, as a “thank you” to all the friends and players of the
Estec Golf Club, as they prepare to return to Canada by the end of the year.

We were then treated to a delicious Italian Buffet. I saw
many a person returning for a second helping!!

We collected a € 167.50 for the Charity **. With the raffle for
1.5 litre of Prosecco that was donated by Mary we collect € 132.50!! Thanks Mary !!
Peter Behrmann who nearly
dropped the bottle won the raffle.

I would like to thank all players, all persons helping to organise
the day, the chef and the staff from Escape for making this a great day to
remember. Days like this is very rewarding for me as the Captain.

Golf greetings

Captains’ Challenges 2014

Captains’ Challenges 2014

The Captains’ Challenges events were held jointly on Friday 25 July at the par 70 Zeegersloot course and attended by seven Club Captains, six Lady Captains and three invited and honoured guests.

The playing format for the captains matches was medal strokeplay (gross score minus playing handicap) while the honoured guests chose to play Stableford.

Detailed results are given in the attached pdf file but:
– the clear winner of the Captain’s Challenge was Dave Collins with 71 strokes (net) with Alex Jeanes second and Cees van de Noort third.
– three ladies had the same net score of 73 but by virtue of the better back 9 rule, the winner was Elly Davis, with Valerie Kayser second and Angela Glatston third.
– the best round of the day was recorded by Alan Thirkettle (honoured guest) with a magnificent 39 Stableford points – with commensurate cut in handicap.

Adding the top 6 net scores, the ladies scored 448 thereby beating the men with 473, thus repeating their victory of 2013. The conclusion: we need more ladies to sign-up for the Bedrijfs League to play the away matches on outside courses.

v.d. Noort Trophy 2014

Dear Members,

Thirty players turned up for the v.d. Noort Trophy which was played on
Saturday 19 July 2014. This ladies championship with, the rather difficult,
strokeplay format (with hcp adjustment) had some fantastic scores. It was
especially a hard battle for everybody, as it we had tropical temperatures of
around 30 degrees or more. It was most unfortunate that due to the heat 3 ladies
had to stop in the second round.

The defending champion, Mary Gillies, set out to play her handicap and
which she did. With this great result she became again the winner of the v.d
Noort Trophy with a Nett 57. It was a pleasure to see two CAT II ladies playing
also a remarkable game. The runner up was Ann Wong with a great score of 59 Nett
and in third place Helma Nollen with a Nett 60. Congratulations and very well
done ladies.

Sixteen gentlemen turned up in support of the v.d. Noort Trophy. They
played in parallel a separate stableford competition. Again also here fantastic
scores were made. It seamed also here, that the heat did not bother the winner
Reno Harboe Sorensen, as he came in with a stunning 41 stbf. In second place
came Jos Hoogeveen with 35 stbf and in third place Flemming Pedersen with 34
stbf. Also here congratulations to the winners and very well done
gentlemen.

Also on behalf on Cees v.d. Noort, our sponsor and friend, thank you all
for supporting this long standing ladies championship the v.d. Noort
Trophy.
